According to open source information, Kristin Denise Smart was last seen at approximately 2:00 a.m., 05/25/1996. She was reportedly walking to her dormitory on the California Polytechnic campus, San Luis Obispo, CA. Smart was walking from an off-campus party and accompanied by a fellow student. 

Smart was reported to have been a block from her Muir Hall dormitory when She and the fellow student parted ways. Smart did not return to her room and has not contacted family or friends since that time. Smart had no identification, money, or extra clothing when she disappeared. Smart was approximately 18 years old at the time of her disappearance, she would currently be approximately 44 years old.

Update** According to open source information, in approximately May 2021, both Paul and Ruben Flores were charged in connection with the 1996 disappearance of Cal Poly freshman Kristin Smart. Both Paul and Ruben Flores were to be before a judge once more on June 21, prior to the scheduled preliminary hearing beginning July 6. 

Both Paul, 44, and his father, 80, have pleaded not guilty. Paul Flores remains at the San Luis Obispo County Jail where he is being held without bail. Ruben Flores, is currently out of custody. Paul Flores, was charged with first-degree murder of Smart, while his father Ruben Flores, is charged with accessory after the fact.
