Aiden traveled from California to Utah on April 26, 2022. He then immediately drove to Nevada, staying at a hotel in Wells before checking out at 6:23 AM on April 27. Early that morning he spoke to his mother over the phone but would not reveal his location. He then traveled south on U.S. Highway 93 and parked his pickup truck on the shoulder near mile marker 23. At approximately 8:50 AM on April 27, a Nevada State Police trooper found his vehicle abandoned.

According to investigators, Aidan's truck was found with the passenger side door open and his wallet, clothes and belongings, and laptop sitting in the passenger seat. The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the situation on April 28, 2022, and began a search for Aidan. His tracks were located leaving the area where the pickup was abandoned, and he was tracked for more than 10 miles into the wilderness, ending at the North end of the Cherry Creek mountain range. Complicating tracking, Aidan would sometimes take his shoes off during the journey. Soon after, a woman claimed to see Aidan on the train in downtown Salt Lake City. She was able to snap a blurry picture which family members say may be him. He has not been located despite multiple search efforts.
