When you see the smile of 6 year old Isabella "Ariel" Kalua aka Ariel Sellers, it's hard to imagine her final moments may have been in a bathroom, locked inside a dog cage with duct tape over her mouth and nose. As Hawaii may be home to some of the most beautiful rainbows, the case of Isabella Kalua may be another example of the countless missing persons cases where the initial reporting is an illusion intended to deceive law enforcement and the public from the facts of what happened.
As reported in the Fox News article, "Isabella Kalua: Missing Hawaii girl was caged, not breathing, sister told police", Isabella Kalua's adoptive parents Isaac and Lehua Kalua were recently arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. Isabella and two of her siblings had been living with the Kalua's in the Honolulu area.
According to the news article, it was revealed during a police interview with Isabella's sister and later incorporated in the police's affidavit's for arrest warrants, Isabella "was in the bathroom in a dog cage, duct tape on her mouth and nose, and she didn't wake up." Tragically, Isabella's sister was asked to keep this secret by her adoptive parents and later told police Isabella was kept in the dog cage because Isabella would sneak around at night looking for food to eat because she was hungry.
As this case was originally reported as a missing persons to the authorities, the tragic reality is Isabella was long passed by then and the actions by her adoptive parents seem to have been taken to create a false narrative of what happened to Isabella, while concealing their own culpability and responsibility for the death of the 6 year old little girl. As reported, Lehua Kalua may have tried to revive Isabella by putting her lifeless body in bath water, and Isaac Kalua went to an emergency room to fake a case of COVID-19. The Kalua's may have conceivably trying to create a cover story and gain time to collectively conceal Isabella's death and dispose of the body.
Unfortunately, Isabella's story is not all too uncommon for some types missing persons cases. The question remains what can we do as a society to better protect children like Isabella? This innocent and sweet little girl had a smile as beautiful as a rainbow, and like all rainbows that emerge, she too is now gone. To date, Isabella's body has not been located.
